Historic Structure Preservation Guide: W.P. & Y.R. Depot and General Offices
Division of Cultural Resources, Alaska Regional Office. 1984. Historic Structure Preservation Guide: W.P. & Y.R. Depot and General Offices. Historic Structure Management Plan. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service. Anchorage, Alaska
This Historic Structure Preservation Guide (HSPG) was prepared in compliance with NPS-28, which requires that such a document be prepared when a historic structure has received its ultimate treatment. The purpose of the guide is to provide maintenance personnel with an information base for budgeting and performing cyclic and routine maintenance of the historic Skagway Railroad Depot. The guide contains detailed schedules and instructions relative to housekeeping, routine, and cyclic maintenance procedures, and it will ensure consistency in materials and procedures even if there are personnel changes. It was intended to be a working document, designed and formatted to be used by park maintenance staff. The HSPG is divided into sections to address details of the systems, features, and materials. It includes forms and schedules for routine maintenance, cyclic maintenance, and housekeeping. The Skagway Railroad Depot is located in the Skagway Historic District. The structure consists of two attached buildings, one of which was constructed in 1898 and one in 1900. It was planned to undergo major rehabilitation and restoration by 1984 and would be used adaptively by the NPS as a headquarters and visitor center.
