This Historic Structure Report for the White Pass and Yukon Route Broadway Depot and General Offices Building partly fulfills the requirements of the Task Directive for Package 104. Alternative treatments for the structures are presented, including the recommended treatment. The structures addressed in the report are formally named White Pass and Yukon Route/Pacific and Arctic Railway and Navigation Company - Broadway Depot and General Offices Building. The park map in the Master Plan identifies them as buildings 36A and 36B. It is proposed that the structures be restored to the 1908-15 period to facilitate the interior use of the building and provide a historically consistent exterior treatment. The interiors will be rehabilitated as needed to provide a functional visitor center and park offices. This action provides for the conservation of a nationally significant historic resource and needed space for vital park activities. Report sections include descriptions of the original appearances of the structures, what and when alterations were made, to the extent known, and the 1978 conditions of the fabric of the buildings. Finally, recommendations are made for each specific area. The complex is divided into three components—the depot, general office, and connecting structures. These are described individually and recommendations made for exterior, interior, and various internal systems. It includes illustrations.
