Light Houses of the National Park Service: A Catalogue

Small NP. 1980. Light Houses of the National Park Service: A Catalogue. Historic Structure Report. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Division of Historical Architecture

This catalogue was produced by the Division of Historical Architecture to explain the most common lighthouse types and present a sampling of some of these types in the National Park System. It is meant to serve as a guide to understanding lighthouses as a building type to enable to NPS to manage current properties and future acquisitions with greater awareness of their individual architectural and historical values. Much of this information has been drawn from primary sources and people in the field, rather than first-hand observation. The lighthouses that are included are in and around National Park areas, although they are not necessarily owned or maintained by the NPS.
