This publication attempts to present sound technical information for architects, building owners, property managers and others responsible for the care and maintenance of historic buildings. This report is taken from a dissertation on moisture problems in English buildings prepared while the author attended the Institute for Advanced Architectural Studies, University of York, York, England in 1979. The current text addresses similar problems in the U.S., but because of the vast differences in climate and topography across this country, has focused on general, rather than localized, moisture problems here. It is hoped that this report will be the basis for future regional and local case studies to complement the material presented here.
