Swan M and DeCoster J. 2014. Standard Operating Procedure #1: Preparations for the Field Season and Equipment Needed, Version 20140911. Southern Colorado Plateau Network

This standard operating procedure (SOP) gives step-by-step instructions for describing physical and biotic characteristics of potential field sites for long-term ecological monitoring. These data are generally collected on a one-time basis, prior to plot establishment, but may be collected at infrequent intervals thereafter to determine if aspects of this assessment have changed over time. All or a portion of this SOP may be conducted on a visit prior to plot establishment. Equipment needs for this procedure are listed in SOP #1, Table 1-1.
