Unusual Red and White Striped Sandstone on the Bird Rock Marine Terrace, San Diego. Research Permit and Reporting System
Minerals and magnetite analyzed in an unusual red and white striped sandstone. Both layers have minor magnetite. The white layers have more hematite and the red ones have more manganese. Although cross bedding was not searched, the layers are interpreted to have been part of a beach deposit sequence where the white layers represent the summer beach and the red layers represent the winter beach.
