During 2009-2010, the wolf population declined from 24 to 19 individuals, while the moose population remained stable at about 510 individuals. The four wolf packs the prior season declined to two packs, with three "loner" individuals. The killing of the East Pack's alpha male and female by January 2009 likely led to the dispersion of the pack's members. The moose appeared to show signs of malnutrition based on bone-marrow samples from wolf-induced moose deaths.
