Focused Condition Assessment: Assessment of Population Status and Trends of the Critically Endangered Maui Parrotbill and Crested Honeycreeper
Bailey C. Focused Condition Assessment: Assessment of Population Status and Trends of the Critically Endangered Maui Parrotbill and Crested Honeycreeper
Through this focused condition assessment, HALE will evaluate the population status and trends of two endangered forest bird species: Maui parrotbill (Hawaiian name: kiwikiu, scientific name: Pseudonestor xanthophrys) and crested honeycreeper (Hawaiian name: 'ākohekohe, scientific name: Palmeria dolei. Focused population condition assessments specifically within HALE of parrotbill and 'ākohekohe are needed to determine if a populations are robust enough to provide birds for possible translocation, to determine the effects of past NPS management action on these two endangered bird species, and provide information for future management actions.
