Calendar Introduction by Deputy SHPO Susan M. Pierce: "Music flows down the mountains and rivers in West Virginia. It starts out in the wind, humans through the trees, and blows across the fields. Then it swirls around the buildings and streets of our town and winds itself around our people. Ask your friends if they sing or play a fiddle and chances are, they grew up singing in the church choir or playing in a band on Saturday night. This year's Historic Preservation Calendar celebrates the fusion of our music and historic buildings. Each month features the personal reflections of West Virginia's musical artists while visiting a special historic place. These musicians share their pride in West Virginia and their excitement about music. Their words reveal why we preserve and protect our historic places: comfort, inspiration, vibrancy, treasures, stories, gems, love, and connection. Historic places fill the air with stories of our people and inspire us to spread that special West Virginia feeling. In 2020, we hope you enjoy the music of West Virginia and her historic places."
