Acoustic survey of bats of the Virgin Islands National Park and adjacent areas, St. John, US Virgin Islands

Platenberg RJ. Acoustic survey of bats of the Virgin Islands National Park and adjacent areas, St. John, US Virgin Islands. Research Permit and Reporting System

We conducted an acoustic survey for bats at key locations within the Virgin Islands National Park (VIIS) in St. John, USVI, in the summer of 2019 to evaluate bat presence and activity in associations with different habitat features. Four of five resident bat species were detected using passive ultrasonic acoustic monitoring. Activity indices based on bat recordings indicate that bats are foraging within specific areas while moving rapidly through other areas that may be less resource dense.
