Development of field technique for monitoring reproductive hormones in feces can potentially provide biologist with a method for assessing fertility control applications in feral horses. The objective was to determine the optimum period of gestation when fecal estradiol levels would accurately distinguish between pregnant and non-pregnant feral mares. We determined a the cut-off point between pregnant and non-pregnant mares was 10pg/mg of feces at 105 days of gestation with an accuracy of 96%.
