Introduction: "This study was conducted as a continuation of the first historic paint finishes report, of 26 September 2018. Some of the surfaces may overlap, however most of the examination was conducted on woodwork from the landing between the first and second floors and all of the second floor rooms. Much of the surfaces that are exposed at present are original finishes and while they may have changed in appearance, due to fading and discoloration, they are to remain exposed. Original finishes from the eighteenth century are extraordinarily rare and must be retained. Some paint removal had been conducted on these surfaces when the Carter Mansion became property of the State of Tennessee in 1972. This study was conducted on the surviving paint finishes as they existed in the Summer of 2020."
