The Lower Mississippi Delta Initiative was the result of PL 103-433. Implementation began circa 1998 in the Southeast and Midwest Regions of the National Park Service. The program has evolved and is in need of reshaping and strategizing to best serve the needs of the stakeholders and residents of the Lower Mississippi Delta region. In undertaking this Administrative History, the Eppley Institute for Parks & Public Lands worked with the Cultural Resource Program at the NPS Southeast Regional Office and the Lower Mississippi Delta Initiative Advisory Board to produce the administrative history and to engage stakeholders in understanding the value of the initiative. The Administrative History looks at the entire history of the granting program, reflecting on outreach, effectiveness, and connection with the enabling legislation. The stakeholder engagement included interviews with select stakeholders, specifically representatives listed in the legislation and NPS representatives.
