This report has been prepared to satisfy the historic architecture research needs outlined in Development/Study Package Proposal 128, requesting the preparation of a historic structure report (architectural data section) for the West India Goods Store at Salem Maritime National Historic Site (NHS). This study provides guidance for both restoration of the structure and its operation as a concession. All known relevant documentary evidence was reviewed for this report, using primarily the collections of the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, MA, and the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities, Boston, MA. Also reviewed were National Park Service (NPS) documents related to Salem Maritime NHS, the West India Goods Store, and Revolutionary War-era shipping.
