This Historic Structure Report concerns Green Run Lodge. Green Run Lodge was assembled in 1954 as a rustic lodging facility, recreational space, and boating complex for sportsmen during hunting season. The lodge was created using pre-existing structures connected with new additions and materials. In 1972, the site was purchased by the National Park Service and became part of Assateague Island National Seashore. The former owners retained rights to use the lodge for hunting and recreation for the next two and a half decades. Since the late 1990s, the lodge has been unoccupied and unused. The rapid deterioration of the structure, its relative isolation, and its vulnerability to future storm damage made compiling adequate documentation on this unique resource a time-sensitive imperative. The following limited Historic Structure Report (HSR) combines archival resources, existing research studies, and data compiled on-site into a comprehensive description of the building’s history, development, and physical characteristics.
