In 1989 Peggy Albee, a historic preservation conservator with the National Park Service's North Atlantic Region's Cultural Resources Center, began investigating the Commandant's House in the Charlestown Navy Yard at Boston National Historical Park in order to produce a Historic Structures Report (HSR). In March of 1991 she submitted her report for official review. Although the HSR was nearly complete, it was never finalized. Since that time the Commandant's House has been utilized in many ways and has needed substantial rehabilitation. With the exception of a 2005 ground floor documentation completed by NPS Architectural Conservator Barbara Yocum, the Commandant's House has not been documented since Albee's 1991 HSR was written. The purpose of this second addendum is to bring documentation of the Commandant's House structural evolution up to date. Due to the level of research contained within the 1991 HSR, this addendum will focus only on the structure's developmental history covering the time period between 1991 to September 2016. To accomplish this, the research level was limited to an examination of relevant materials found in park files synthesized with information gathered during a survey of the structure. Additional information was attained from interviews of those who have been tasked with its care.
