The C.E. Beckman Co. building is a long, warehouse-style structure located on the waterfront in the city of New Bedford, Bristol County, Massachusetts. It is within the boundaries of a local historic district, a National Historic Landmark district, and New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park. The building consists of three connected structures: two made of stone, the other made of wood. Significant alterations proposed by private owner Carl Beckman for stabilizing the frame portion of the building is the impetus for this Historic Structure Report. This report recounts the historical background and development of the Beckman site and summarizes the physical evolution of the building. The frame building is the focus for descriptions of architectural elements, identification of character-defining features for the circa-1810 to 1855 period of significance, and suggestion for general treatment.
