This historic structures report (HSR) focuses on the Corwin Farm complex and its associated structures. The farm is located within Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River and currently serves as a three-season ranger station. The farm is geographically located along the south side of State Road 97 near Handsome Eddy in Lumberland, Sullivan County, New York. The purpose of this report is to fully document the buildings and their historic appearance and evolution. Additionally, this HSR helps to achieve several National Park Service-wide goals: to provide baseline research for the Corwin Farm, which is needed to support appropriate stabilization and repairs; to inform and support future treatment and management decisions through documentary evidence and research; to address a threatened resource; and to address historically significant resources which were determined eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. The original functions of the farmhouse and barn, as well as the construction dates of the adjacent retaining walls, were determined to be of particular interest and heavily investigated. This report is written in accordance with National Park Service (NPS) Director’s Order #28: Cultural Resource Management Guideline and will include the following sections: Historical Background and Context, Chronology of Development and Use, Current Physical Description, and Conclusions (Character-Defining Features and General Recommendations).
