Archeological Investigation of the Harpers Ferry Armory, Warehouse and Smith and Forging Shop

The report is organized by four major parts, subdivided into chapters. Section I provides an historic overview of the area, with historic periods focused on the Musket Factory with both national and local significance addressed. Section II is a compilation of information pertaining to the history of archeology at HFNHP as laying the groundwork for current studies, an introduction to the application of GIS on the armory site and construction details for the two structures within the boundary of this project. Section III includes the field results for the Armory Warehouse and Smith and Forging Shop. Stratigraphic analysis and descriptions and interpretation of site features are found in Section III. Section IV is comprised of artifact analyses, organized into four chapters starting with a brief discussion on methodology then highlighting the prehistoric period, the Musket Factory period and the use of the site as a Quartermaster's depot during the Civil War. Finally, Section V provides a brief summary and recommendations for future work and protection of the site.
