A subsurface exploration and geotechnical engineering evaluation has been performed in connection with the proposed Great Kills Field Station in Staten Island, New York. This project involves the construction of a one-story building with a slab-on-grade, and occupying a footprint area of approximately 2,000 square feet. This report presents the results of our subsurface exploration and our recommendations towards the design and construction of the proposed building. Our conclusions and recommendations are summarized as follows: 1. A soft clay/organic silt layer was encountered beneath the upper sandy soil layer. However, the subsurface soil conditions have improved since our last exploration 2. A maximum allowable bearing pressure of 2,000 pounds per square foot is recommended for shallow foundations 3. A total construction settlement of approximately 1 inch and differential settlement of approximately ½ inch should be anticipated 4. General guidelines for earthwork, seismic, dewatering, and subgrade preparation are included in the text. This report presents the results of our subsurface exploration and subsequent engineering evaluation in connection with the proposed Great Kills Field Station in Staten Island, New York. A map indicating the regional location of the project site is presented on Drawing No. 1. The purpose of our participation on the project at this time was to explore the subsurface conditions in the area of the proposed building and to provide geotechnical engineering recommendations for the design and construction of the proposed facility. The scope of work performed included the advancement of 3 test borings, laboratory testing, engineering evaluation, and the generation of our recommendations.
