This Historic Structures Report is a documentation of the history associated with Miller Field as well as architectural, structural and mechanical data and observations of changes and existing conditions of the Seaplane Hangar. Previous to this report, the National Park Service had done extensive research of the history of the field, including specific events, historic photographs, and a compilation of early construction documents. This was extremely helpful in preparation of this study. Special credit must be given to two authors in particular as several portions of their work have been excerpted in the history section of this report. 1. "General History of the Jamaica Bay, Breezy Point, and Staten Island Units Gateway National Recreation Area, New York, New York" by Tony P Wrenn 2. "Data and Materials Relative to Seaplane Hangar (Building No. 38) at Miller Field Gateway National Recreational Area, New York and New Jersey," by Harland D. Unrau. This Structures Report rounds out the history by examining the development of the buildings and their architectural significance as they stand today. Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates has been retained by the National Park Service to study and record physical and observable aspects through a series of photographs and drawings illustrating significant changes in the sea plane hangar since it was completed in 1921.
