The Jamaica Bay Visitor Facility is located within the Gateway National Recreation Area, Jamaica Bay Unit, Jamaica Bay, Queens, New York. The project consists of two components: the Visitor Contact Station and Building 101. The Visitor Contact Station is the sole public facility in this portion of the park and will act as gateway to the Jamaica Wildlife Refuge beyond. Building 101, located approximately one half mile north of the Visitor Contact Station along Cross Bay Boulevard will function as an expanded maintenance and support building for the park. The Visitor Contact Station is an addition to and rehabilitation of an existing facility originally constructed for the New York City Parks Department in 1970. Initially a maintenance building, the National Park Service has adapted the structure to provide minimal visitor services. This project will expand the building from 3,285 sq. ft. to approximately 6,650 sq. ft. and include the following major program elements: Lobby/Gathering Spaces with Information and Bookshop Presentation Room Administrative Office Space Resource Management Room Library Conference Room Public Toilet Rooms
