The Historic Structure Report, Architectural Data Section for the Old State House at Boston National Historical Park is a two-volume report that describes and analyzes the history and development of the structure. Volume I (Physical History) focuses on the history of the Old State House. Volume II (Systems Analysis) analyzes and evaluates the architectural, engineering, and construction systems based on their existing conditions in 1987. The Old State House (Second Boston Town House) was built in 1712-13 to house the government offices of the Province of Massachusetts Bay, the town of Boston, and Suffolk County. It is associated with the American resistance to British colonial policies in the 1760s and 1770s. The building is the oldest extant building of Georgian design in the US and an early instance (1881-82) of the preservation of a structure for historic reasons.
