This is the Energy and Water Conservation Plan for Floyd Bennett Field. This report documents opportunities to save money through more efficient use of electricity, other fuels and water in these facilities. Floyd Bennett Field was the original airport for the New York City area. However, due to competition from other airports, it never became a major commercial airport. It was used extensively in WWII. Most of the original buildings exist and the runways are still visible. The site is owned by the National Park Service which occupies some of the buildings and leases others to various groups such as the New York City Police and Park Police. The public can use various areas of the field for recreational purposes. The survey at Floyd Bennett Filed encompassed fourteen buildings totaling approximately 426,000 square feet. The oldest building is 69 years old and the newest is 37 years old. There are are other buildings at the site that were not surveyed including a hangar used by the NYC Police and some active military facilities.
