The primary object was to run an archeological survey of the grounds. Historic evidence pointed to the possibilities outlined above. Specifically these amounted to the following: 1. the existence of an outbuilding to the north or northeast of the house; 2. the presence of graves in the vicinity of the house, that is, temporary graves for Federal dead during the war, later removed, the sites possibly marked by expended shot; evidence of the house belonging to Captain John Hall. Beyond this, the problem was simply to find what was to be found and describe the site archeologically.
