Localized Drought Impacts on Northern Colorado Plateau Landbirds

Northern Colorado Plateau Network. 2021. Localized Drought Impacts on Northern Colorado Plateau Landbirds

Summarizes the work described in a journal article describing the adaptive capacity of NCPN landbird species under future warming and drying expected with climate change. This analysis combined 12 years of NCPN landbird-monitoring data with long-term climate records to examine the potential impacts of increasing water deficit on landbird species in NCPN parks. This work represents the first attempt to determine how changes in water availability might affect aridland breeding birds in distinct vegetation types. The results will help land managers to focus conservation efforts on places where certain species are most vulnerable to projected climate changes.
