The Alaska Department of Fish and Game Statewide Small Game Program began completing spring breeding surveys for willow and rock ptarmigan in spring 2014 and has a permit to continue the investigations through spring 2023. Overall spring breeding abundance has slowly increased annually through 2020; however, breeding abundance decreased modestly in 2021.
