This report summarizes the results of a 9-month preliminary survey of the spider fauna of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP). It included a literature review of GSMNP spiders, an inventory of GSMNP spiders housed in museum and private collections, initiation of standardized sampling of spiders in the GSMNP (with an emphasis on spiders living in threatened old growth forest communitie4s), and a start at identifying existing collections of GSMNP spiders.
