As part of the Northeast Coastal and Barrier Network (NCBN) vital signs monitoring program, salt marsh vegetation and nekton monitoring data have been collected within Cape Cod National Seashore (CACO), Fire Island National Seashore (FIIS), Sagamore Hill National Historic Site (SAHI), Gateway National Recreation Area - Sandy Hook Unit (GATE-SHU), and Assateague Island National Seashore (ASIS). This report summarizes the observed salt marsh conditions present within each park using both a multimetric index (MMI) and individual metrics such as percent cover, species richness, and relative abundance for select vegetation and nekton species. Trends in each metric for the period of 2008 to 2018 are quantified using regression analysis. Consistent with the Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) Program Guidance, power simulations are also performed to assess whether the data collected to date can meet the protocol's objectives.
