Monitoring and sampling of white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) browse on various plant species is an effective tool used to obtain information needed to successfully manage deer populations. The monitoring includes quantitative information on the impacts of deer browse to vegetation and estimates of population density. Through sampling efforts on Sand and York Islands for 2016, results have indicated that very few deer currently inhabit these islands. The number of deer pellets found at the 46 plots sampled on Sand Island remains zero for a second year in a row. Similarly, no pellet groups were observed within the 8 sampling plots on York Island for a fifth year in a row. Browse surveys of both Sand and York islands revealed no evidence of browse, on any of the herbaceous species, at any of the plots
