Historical Survey of Peregrine Falcon Eyries In National Park Service Lands Bordering Lake Superior
1977. Historical Survey of Peregrine Falcon Eyries In National Park Service Lands Bordering Lake Superior. Michigan Technological University
Peregrine falcon, Falco peregrinus anatum (Bonaparte), history, current status and reintroduction potential in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, Isle Royale National Park and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore were investigated. Two nestlings were documented in both Isle Royale national Park and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The peregrine is currently absent as a breeding species from each area studied. Three areas in Isle Royale National Park and on in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore were described in detail and the information was submitted to the Federal Peregrine Falcon Recovery Team for consideration as possible reintroduction sites. A reintroduction at any of the sites would not be feasible until DDE and PCB levels in the Lake Superior ecosystem drop significantly.
