Archeological excavations were conducted inside Building 40 in the winter of 1989-1990 prior to its restoration and the removal of a twentieth century concrete cap of the building basement. This work was necessary to determine what resources might be impacted by the construction work and to aid in developing the furnishing and interpretive plans for the building. This report includes sections describing the history, archeology, and artifact analysis of Building 40.
