Understanding an urban forest's structure, function and value can promote management decisions that will improve human health and environmental quality. An assessment of the vegetation structure, function, and value of eight National Capitol Area parks was conducted during 2016. Data from numerous sample field plots located throughout the parks were analyzed using the i-Tree Eco model developed by the U.S. Forest Service, Northern Research Station. These reports generated data that helped serve as the basis of an analysis of the ecosystem values and effects of the parks' total urban forests.
