Red and white striped Pleistocene sandstone sits on the Nestor Marine Terrace, surrounded by the Late Cretaceous Cabrillo Formation. My hypothesis was that the red layers would have more magnetite and the white layers would have none or less. But the layers essentially had the same small amount of magnetite. Dr. Pat Abbott suggested that the depositional environment might have been sheet flow from weathering of the Cabrillo Fm. But the mineralogy did not match.
