Southeast Alaska Network water quality and streamflow monitoring SOP 9: Annual and Synthesis Reporting (FQ_G and FQ_H Creation), version 3.0
Goodwin D and Ziomek T. 2022. Southeast Alaska Network water quality and streamflow monitoring SOP 9: Annual and Synthesis Reporting (FQ_G and FQ_H Creation), version 3.0. NPS Southeast Alaska I&M Network, Juneau, Alaska.
This reference is standard operating procedure (SOP) 9 from the FQ-2022.1 protocol package, in effect as of the 2021 monitoring season. SEAN water quality annual updates (FQ_G) provide a non-technical, descriptive overview of field observations, operations, data completeness, and park-focused highlights by monitoring year. The sampling season generally runs May through October. Results for all three parks (GLBA, KLGO, and SITK) are included in a single resource brief web article, with site-specific pdfs containing the same information also generated. Annual updates are published by the Project Leader within three months of monitoring season completion. Synthesis reports (FQ_H), produced every ten years, offer a detailed examination of seasonal patterns and temporal trends in water quality parameters while integrating related regional data into analyses and interpretations. Trend consistency across monitored parks, baseline reference conditions, and any emerging environmental shifts are considered for each water quality parameter; data are also compared to Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC 2020) standards. FQ_H is published in NPS NRR format. The SEAN financially supports USGS gaging stations on the Taiya and Indian Rivers but is not responsible for equipment operation or data processing, quality control, and publication. Discharge observations are summarized in SEAN annual updates and synthesis reports, but not further statistically examined.
