Little to no information has been collected on fish species inhabiting perennial creeks within Capitol Reef. Pleasant Creek has the most information, but hasn’t been sampled since 2009. Sulphur Creek has been sampled once in 1993. There are no records of fish sampling in Oak Creek or Hall’s Creek although fish have been observed in those creeks. Collecting updated information on fish species in Pleasant Creek and Sulphur Creek is especially important as the park is currently in the process of negotiating Federal Reserved water rights with Utah. The park is interested in converting its irrigation water rights to instream conservation rights in Pleasant and Sulphur creeks. The presence of Conservation Agreement fish species (i.e., bluehead sucker and flannelmouth sucker), which have been documented in those two creeks in past surveys, would help facilitate conversion to conservation rights.
