Hilker G. 1974. The Audience and You: Practical Dramatics for the Park Interpreter. NPS History Series. Historical Handbook Series. National Park Service. Washington, DC
This publication was written specifically for NPS interpreters to help them craft live/oral interpretive programs. The subjects covered in the booklet apply to all NPS oral interpretive programs. Techniques for presentations by small groups of interpreters are outlined. Individual interpreters can also derive useful ideas from the group suggestions. The book is intended to help interpreters create believable human beings in informative dramatic situations to assist in attracting and holding the interest of park visitors. The author Gordon Hilker was Director of the School of Performing and Visual Arts at United States International University, San Diego. He was also responsible for artistic activities at the university's campuses in Hawaii, Mexico, England, and Kenya. Hilker was an expert in oral interpretation and was a member of National Park Service interpretive planning teams for various National Parks.
