Snowshoe hare geophagy

DiFolco DL. 2024. Snowshoe hare geophagy. National Park Service

Gives the background for the development of the Snowshoe Hare Ecology Project in the central Brooks Range, in that signs of hare geophagy had been observed, prompting us to study hare populations in "mineral" and "non-mineral" areas. Photographic documentation of hare geophagy, and an explanation of the biological reasons for why hares may engage in this behavior are presented.
