The article is a discussion of the history and development (up to 1990) of the National Park Service's policy on reconstructing historic structures in National Park units. The article was written in response to letters to the CRM Bulletin editor about an article in CRM vol. 12, no. 1 (1989) pertaining to the reconstructions at Fort union Trading Post National Historic Site. While the 1990 article on reconstruction discusses the (at the time) recent work done at Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site, it is more broadly an article on the history of NPS policies on reconstruction in park units. As such it discusses multiple projects at various park units from 1930 to 1989.
