From the abstract: "As this year’s Cathy and Jim Gero Acadia Early Career Fellow in Science Communication at Schoodic Institute, I am producing a four-episode podcast season on the participation of non-scientists in scientific research, popularly known as citizen science. While citizen science can take many forms, here at Schoodic Institute we use it to answer questions about the changing environment around us. In the podcast series, I report on Project ASCO (Assessing Seaweed via Community Observations), Hawk Watch, and iNaturalist projects that monitor biodiversity. My goal is to integrate sound with storytelling to transport listeners to the park regardless of their ability to physically visit. I chose to focus on citizen science for this season of the podcast for two reasons: first, because this topic would highlight a variety of voices not often heard in science, and second, because reporting for this project would include recording unique sounds in a diversity of environments."
