From the abstract: "Project ASCO seeks to quantify the biomass of rockweed (Ascophyllum nodosum) in Maine using citizen science, a tool that engages volunteers and research partners in shared research. Some members of the scientific community are concerned about the rigor of citizen science data because protocol designs prioritize accessibility to volunteers and data are not collected by ‘professionals.’ Our research aims to demonstrate the integrity and consistency of data collected for Project ASCO through experiments related to methodology, experience level of data collectors, and site variability."
