This Shoreline Change Project is a task within the larger service-wide NPS Ocean and Coastal Resources Branch (OCRB) Sediment and Shoreline Management priority project. The primary goal of this project is to provide as many of the 88 ocean and Great Lakes park units as possible with simple, easy to understand short-term shoreline change rate maps using data from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Coastal Change Hazards Portal (https://marine.usgs.gov/coastalchangehazardsportal/). The shoreline years referenced to calculate the short-term change rates vary depending on location, but typically fall between a timeline of approximately 20-40 years. Two primary methods were used by the USGS to calculate shoreline change rates: linear regression rates and end-point rates. Linear regression rates were used as the primary data, but end-point rates were also used on a case-by-case basis where linear regression rates were not available. Specific methods and shoreline years can be seen in the bottom banner of each PDF map. The data was downloaded on a regional level and therefore, additional park data layers will be present in each zipped GIS file. The included layout files are specific to each park. Park boundaries are defined by the NPS Land Resources Division (July 2021) and are available for download on IRMA Data Store. The products presented are based on available data as of September 2022, and therefore, coverage gaps may be present. The zipped GIS file for each park unit includes the following: • Geodatabase: the geodatabase for the project is separated by region. Each geodatabase will include shoreline change rate transect data labeled by park and calculated using either a linear regression rate (LRR) or endpoint rate method (EPR) • Layout files: the map layout files for each park that were used to create the static PDF maps Note: This project reference is part of the larger Shoreline Mapping collection on IRMA Data Store.
