Northeast Coastal and Barrier Network monitoring of shoreline position (1D) and coastal topographic (2D) change: 2019–2020 annual summary report for Gateway National Recreation Area. This Monitoring Report incorporates the changes of shoreline position (1D) and the changes of dune/beach profiles (2D) in Gateway National Recreation Area from the spring of 2019 through spring of 2020 with limited data from the spring of 2019 and 2020. Following established protocols, seasonal surveys generated data sets for subsequent comparisons. Although too early to identify trends of change, the data do provide a series of dimensions regarding the linear distances of shoreline position changes and both linear dimensions and cross-sectional areas of beach and dune features on the profiles. A variety of figures and tables portray the metrics derived from the monitoring programs for each of the seasonal surveys and the differences among the seasonal surveys for the span of one year. During this survey period, shoreline change was generally characterized by net seaward displacement during the winter. Only Breezy Point and Sandy Hook have an annual shoreline comparison available because of a funding interruption and COVID-19 restrictions. Sandy Hook had a net landward displacement, and Breezy Point had a net seaward displacement during the Spring 2019-Spring 2020 comparison. Coastal topography profiles largely show cross-section area losses in the dune with variable change in the beach. Dune portions of the profiles exhibited comparatively less change, with the greatest losses occurring at Sandy Hook profiles, whereas accretion occurred at downdrift profiles at Breezy Point.
