The Sheep Pass Campground measures approximately 797 feet (243 m) north-south by 1,212 feet (369 m) east-west and encompasses 11.95 acres of NPS-administered land in the north-central portion of the Park. It is located within the SW¼ of the NW¼ of Section 14, Township 2 South (T2S), Range 8 East (R8E), San Bernardino Prime Meridian (PM), and is depicted on the 1972 USGS 7.5' Queen Mountain, California, and 1988 Malapai Hill, California topographical maps (Figure 2). The Project Locator UTM is 581212 mE, 3762480 mN (Zone 11N, NAD 83). The Sheep Pass Campground was one of three campgrounds established in the Park (then a national monument) by 1954. Three years later, the campground had four campsites, eight tables, five fireplaces, and two pit toilets, all of which were accessed by a 0.55-mile loop road that extended from Park Boulevard. By 1977, it had grown to include six group campsites along the loop road—a configuration which it still retains today. Associated amenities currently present at the campground include picnic tables, pedestal grills, steel fire rings, vault toilets, signage, parking areas, trailhead, and trash and recycling facilities. At the request of Park cultural resources staff, the entirety of the campground was documented as a site.
