The insert provides a visual representation of 100 years of science and natural resource management in the National Park System to include successes, failures, and challenges. It explores the evolving roles of park science through the key events, people, and policies that shaped natural resource stewardship in the national parks. The multipage timeline places the milestones into four themes - governance and policy, science and scientists, debates, and innovations. The insert also contains an introduction by Rebecca Hunt, Associate Professor, Clinical Teaching Track, Department of History, University of Colorado–Denver and includes a note on sources used in the development of the timeline. The timeline is the product of a cooperative agreement between the National Park Service and the University of Colorado–Denver, Center of Preservation Research.
