Water Quality Monitoring as a Citizen Science program in Prince William County

Arvin R and Tangiri VM. Water Quality Monitoring as a Citizen Science program in Prince William County. Research Permit and Reporting System

Prince William County is a fast-growing suburban County in the Washington DC Metro. Urban development, especially with its numerous Data Centers is a recent growing concern because forest areas are converted to pervious surfaces with an increase in stormwater runoff. This pollutes local streams reducing the biodiversity of benthic macro invertebrates. The results of two monitored sessions in 2022 showed an accepted ecological condition but with a decrease in the metric results from 12 to 9.
