Work performed in 2022 by Crater Lake National Park’s Invasive Vegetation Management program continued a steady 20-year effort to detect, contain, and reduce infestations of invasive plant species within the park. The 2022 season marked the sixth year in which the Invasive Vegetation Management Plan was implemented, and the fifth full field season of park-wide herbicide application. Using manual and chemical methods an estimated 87,182 invasive plants were treated in 2022. Four new-to-the-park invasive plant species were discovered this year: bullhead (Tribulus terrestris), Jim Hill mustard (Sisymbrium altissimum), alfalfa (Medicago sativa), and creeping yellow wood sorrel (Oxalis corniculata).
