MINERVA (Monitoring Inventory for Native, Exotic, and Rare Vegetation Assemblages) is a new plant ecological research program at Joshua Tree National Park, named in honor of Minerva Hamilton Hoyt, who championed the establishment of this desert park. MINERVA focuses on studying the effects of climate change on Mojave and Colorado vegetative assemblages, and on providing information that may help in preserving plant biodiversity and iconic species like the western Joshua tree.
