A Dark Skies Park

Dark skies are a natural resource, and Joshua Tree National Park is committed to protecting the resource as part of its mission. The park became an International Dark Sky Park in 2017. This required a certification process which included inventorying sources of light pollution, mitigating them (e.g., by installing shielded exterior lighting), and working with local communities.
