Herbaria are important resources for plant science. The Joshua Tree National Park Herbarium contains 6500 documented plant specimens (vouchers) for 95% of the park's 750 species. This brief describes the history of the herbarium and some of the ways in which the collection has contributed to science, including documentation of seven new species, including Heterotheca joshuana, the Joshua tree goldenaster.
